Screenprint on paper
Edition of 30
Print: 32.5 x 20.7 cm
Paper: 45 x 32 cm
This screen print transforms a photographic image into a bold, abstract composition. Initially developed through digital software, I reduced the photograph to simplified blocks of colour, allowing shapes and negative space to emerge. This digital manipulation acted as the foundation for a traditionally hand-pulled screen print, merging contemporary and traditional processes. The resulting image explores the interplay of colour, shape, and composition, with vivid yellow, green, pink, and blue interacting to encourage contrast and energy in the piece. Flat planes of pigment and sharp edges highlight the layering inherent in screen printing, while the scattered dots and irregular forms hint at the original floral subject without directly replicating it. By stripping back detail and emphasising contrast, the piece invites you to focus on the structural and sensory qualities of the image, playing at the boundary between representation and abstraction.
