The Blossom Series is an ongoing body of work that I have been developing since 2023. It explores the transformation of natural imagery through photography, digital image-making and hand-printed processes. Beginning with my own photographs of blossom, I digitally manipulate the imagery, experimenting with colour, shape, scale and composition before translating the designs into physical screenprints.
By reducing detail, enlarging and cropping floral forms, I create bold compositions using flat areas of colour and expressive, abstracted shapes. The original blossom remains recognisable, yet its forms increasingly move away from their photographic source, allowing colour, contrast, negative space and rhythm to become central to the work.
Combining contemporary digital tools with traditional screenprinting, the series explores the relationship between representation and abstraction. Each print offers a new interpretation of the same natural motif, transforming familiar botanical forms into graphic compositions that are materially and visually distinct from their origins.
The collection mainly consists of original prints and is accompanied by paintings, drawings and photography.
